Ukraine: Grave concerns We remain gravely concerned by the rising death toll and human suffering from Russian attacks in Ukraine. Schools, hospitals, kindergartens and other civilian objects have been hit in many parts of the country – with hugely devastating consequences.
Belarus examination UN report details scale and patterns of human rights violations committed with impunity in Belarus, where the fundamental human rights of tens of thousands of people have been violated by the Government’s continued crackdown.

Ukraine civilian casualties From 4 a.m. on 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine started, to 24:00 midnight on 10 March 2022 (local time), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 1,546 civilian casualties in the country: 564 killed and 982 injured.
Belarus execution The Human Rights Committee condemned Belarus for its execution of Victor Pavlov, whose petition was still being examined by the Committee.
Ukraine We reiterate our urgent call for a peaceful end to the hostilities in Ukraine and urge parties to the conflict to ensure civilians in areas affected by active hostilities can safely leave. In Russia, the number of anti-war protesters arbitrarily arrested has now reached 12,700.
Canada: Indigenous rights The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women has called on Canada to fully address the long-standing gender-based discrimination in the country’s Indian Act.
Sri Lanka terrorism law Experts call for immediate moratorium on use of Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Terrorism Act, and urge Government to substantively review and revise legislation to comply with international human rights law.

Ukraine Casualty Figures Between 04.00 on 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine started, and 24.00 on 6 March 2022 (local time), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 1,207 civilian casualties in the country: 406 killed and 801 injured.
Russia arrests Peaceful anti-war demonstrators continue to be arbitrarily arrested in Russia, with reports suggesting some 6,400 people have been arrested since Thursday last week. We call for the immediate release of all those arbitrarily detained.
Belarus protests Hundreds of demonstrators were arrested in Belarus on Sunday. We urge the authorities to respect people’s right to freedom of expression and assembly and to immediately release all those detained for peaceful expression of their opinions.
South Sudan report In a new joint report, UN Human Rights and UNMISS detail grave violations and abuses committed against civilians during clashes between warring groups in Tambura County and calls for all implicated to be held to account.
Ukraine / Russia We are gravely concerned about developments on Thursday and overnight in Ukraine, and are receiving increasing reports of civilian casualties. We are also disturbed by arbitrary arrests in Russia of demonstrators protesting against war.
